In Anderson’s practice, the technological objects ‘memorized’ on the canvas with paint are then assembled and ‘crystallized’ with copper-colored wire to become sculptures.
Anderson speaks of crystallization or memorization to describe the gesture of encircling an object with wire - an eco-friendly material that symbolizes copper, representing neuronal and technological connections.
As she engages in a dialogue with the object, Anderson weaves, memorizes, and crystallizes her relationship with it.
These machines, recycled and erected as “Spiritual Machines,” bear their name in reference to the book The Age of Spiritual Machines, published in 1999 by artificial intelligence pioneer Ray Kurzweil."
